Review of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by Matt N — 30 Jan 2017
At first, with Bottle Rocket and Rushmore we discovered Wes Andersons style of movie making. Colorful, quirky, funny and often tragic. Second viewing a must. The Royal Renenbaums is his best. Wes has it dialed in and the craziness never unravels as it does in The Djarling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel.
From beginning to end the film is brilliant. Gene Hackman is amazing and his line delivery is perfect. A true masterpiece. Even the movie poster is awesome. Nobody is smiling...Except Royal, with that grin.
