Review of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by Matthew G — 24 Mar 2014
Everything Wes Anderson does in this movie just feels so in sync. Camera work, character interactions and the score work in together in such a way that I feel isn't seen in many movies. The resolution of the story isn't rushed, once Gene Hackman's character realizes his faults, the cause and effect of his actions plays out for much longer than other typical hollywood stories would have them resolved.
Perhaps a hollywood epiphany of this type may be resolved in as little as 10 minutes of screen time, however in Royal's case his resolution takes parts of Act 2 and Act 3. I really liked because that's just how life is.
