Review of The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) by Kyle M — 22 Aug 2014
This is a beautifully crafted film with perfectly developed characters, yet we don't really know any of them at the end. There are a lot of moments of humor, some of them being "what in the heck?" moments.
Each actor captures their unique character wonderfully. Ben Stiller was a surprise; so was Luke Wilson. Everyone else was as good as expected except Hackman who was better than expected. Wes Anderson impresses me with every film, even when they seem so similar.
The Royal Tenenbaums almost appears as an adult evolution of Moonrise Kingdom (or the opposite given that Moonrise came second). Anderson continues to show us the importance of a father-son relationship, and how lost a child is without it.
