Review of The Rose Tattoo (1955) by Mike C — 02 Jan 2008
Thanks to Tennessee Williams and his play The Rose Tattoo, Anna Magnani got the chance to prove to a large american audience that she was indeed the greatest actress in the world - and got the Oscar to prove it.
The play is really not one of Williams very best, but it gets its definitive interpretation here even though Lancaster at times is a bit over the top. Thank god for Anna! And she is even better in her Italian films - especially in Belissima and Honorable Angelina.
