Review of The Rose (1979) by Carolyn G — 30 May 2009
The absolute pinnacle of Bette Midler's career. An utterly heartbreaking and tragic performance. When The Rose collapsed, my heart leapt from my chest. Cliched? Fine. Predictable? Maybe a little, if you factor in the equally tragic story of Janis Joplin, on which this is loosely-based.
Still, a very engaging and gut-wrenching film with a soundtrack that brings it all on home.
