Review of The Rookie (2002) by Ryan J — 17 Jul 2010
Solid, uplifting film with a lot of heart and inspiration about a high school chemistry teacher and baseball coach who inspires his young players to win a championship, and they in turn, inspire him to make a comeback to the major leagues as a pitcher.
The film seems to accurately portray the toll the game often takes on players and thier families, using Quaid's character as an example. A little too slow to develop and some holes in the writing, but otherwise, well done.
