Review of The Rocketeer (1991) by Corey B — 29 Jul 2011
Here's a movie that's aged very well! I remember enjoying it as a kid, but now it's even more charming. Johnston's throwback to the Golden Age of Hollywood is delightful. The action scenes are fun, the performers are having a Hell of a time (especially Dalton), it takes its time to tell an actual story, and it looks stunning!
If it disappoints at all, it's that the special effects at the time couldn't quite pull off a big scale action sequence that the movie really needs at the end. The Zeppelin is cool, but there's very little Rocketeering going on in the final act.
Just a whole lot of fun!
