Review of The Rocketeer (1991) by Daniel K — 04 Jan 2012
3: This is one of those pictures I'll always remember seeing as a child. I haven't seen it in a few years, but I can definitely still see what the attraction is. I doubt I'd enjoy it as much as I do if I didn't have a bit of nostalgia wrapped up in it, but it is a reasonable homage/copy to Indiana Jones.
There's a bit more romance than in Indiana Jones and instead of an ancient artifact that will serve as Nazi weapon it is a modern rocket pack designed by none other than Howard Hughes (although certainly not the Hughes we know from The Aviator).
The protagonist is a pilot rather than an archeologist as well of course. Still, it is a nice little adventure yarn that reminds one enough of Bond and Jones pictures to keep one engaged. It certainly doesn't hurt that it is set in 1930's Hollywood, which I will never turn my nose up at.
