Review of The Rocketeer (1991) by Brandon W — 05 Jun 2015
Joe Johnston's The Rocketeer is a fantastic Disney movie that is quite a bit adult for a kid's film. Billy Campbell is great as the main hero and it's kind of sad to see that he's not in much in Hollywood movies, at least as a main character.
Jennifer Connelly is great also which I didn't even know it was her at first until I looked at her for awhile. Alan Arkin plays the slime ball, but supportive character very well, and Timothy Dalton is having a lot of fun as the villain.
The old-fashioned action is really good, and the effects on the flying scenes look pretty good. The character development is really good and the twists are very effective. Connelly's character is actually smart which I'm very glad to see that she helps the hero, and knows how defend herself from danger.
The Rocketeer is an enjoyable film that I'm actually kind of surprised that there's no other rocket film I can think of besides this.
