Review of The Rock (1996) by Troy F — 26 Jul 2011
The Rock is definitely one of Michael Bay's more solid efforts in film, but while it does contain a great complex plot structure, it still isn't really what you call a smart film. It's still a lot of excessive action which is for the most part kick ass, but also typical Bay fare as always.
I did like the cast though too, Sean Connery and Nicholas Cage working together was rather interesting and a good pair-up for this film. So yes, a solid entertaining action flick, but stretches out a little long and is still a shitload of action as a Bay trademark, though not as severe as his later films (Bad Boys II, Transformers 2, etc.
).
