Review of The Rock (1996) by Matthew C — 05 Aug 2012

Not as awesome as I remember it but still has plenty of gripping scenes, mostly in the first half of the film. While not everything makes sense and some things are clearly not payed off, the movie holds up as a fun excursion.

Alcatraz is a great setting and Connery is able to carry a lot. Harris' character is hit and miss and even his acting is not always on the mark. Cage is in his true form here with some stand out moments.

All in all Michael Bay has fared much worse. After the quite good scene between Harris and Biehn, the movie sort of spirals down, but hey, it's Bay.
