Review of The Rock (1996) by Baurushan J — 24 Aug 2012

The story is about Francis played by Ed Harris who plays an insane Marine Corps general has taken 81 tourists hostage on the abandoned island prison of Alcatraz known as The Rock, a highly protected prison which nobody is unable to escape from.

Him and his men are threatening to bomb San Francisco with a deadly gas unless $100 million is paid in war reparations to the families of servicemen killed in covert operations which starts from the very beginning of the film.

This leads to the intro of Stanley Goodspeed who is an FBI chemical weapons expert takes this assignment played by the master of insanity Nicholas Cage. So Stanley visits the prison and meets former British spy John Patrick Mason played by the first ever James Bond, Sean Connery to team up with him along with a Navy SEAL team to handle the assignment as John is the only one who was able to escape The Rock.

When all the soldiers are killed off, it's finally up to Stanley and John to stop Francis. With an intimidating soundtrack, rapid shots and great production behind the film-making, This is probably Michael Bay's best movie since his first film Bad Boys.

And we all know after this he went one hell of downhill with "let's begin the list"- Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys 2, The Island, Transformers, Transformers 2 and those god awful Platinum Dunes remakes.

Finally in 2011, he made one huge improvement with Transformers: Dark Of The Moon which so many people hated for some reason. Jerry Bruckheimer's partner Don Simpson died of a drug overdose before this movie's release and this movie will always stay with him in his legacy and so will every other movie him and Jerry have worked on together and made a big hit.

The Rock gets a true 10/10.
