Review of The Rock (1996) by Andrew K — 19 Feb 2013
Another reviewer called this "an action junkie's angry fix" and then rated it rotten. I'm going to call it an action junkie's angry fix and rate it fresh because it gave me that fix. There's nothing to say about it really- it's your stereotypical Holywood action movie- you shouldn't expect much from it because it certainly won't expect much from you. It's exciting and fun and Nicolas Cage gets a bit crazy- surely that will do!?
It's a Michael Bay film where for some reason unbeknownst to me- Bay doesn't cross the line that makes it insanely bad, he just stays right on the line that makes it bad but takes your insanity and massages it until the film is good. Massages it with violence and noise and humour and in this case, Elton John's Rocketman.
