Review of The Roaring Twenties (1939) by Todd F — 07 Jan 2008
Another great Cagney movie. This film also features a young Humphry Bogart (Casablanca, The Big Sleep, African Queen). I really enjoyed this film. It kept me thoroughly entertained. For people not familar with the old films, these movies were often used to expose the public to songs, and Priscilla Lane does a fine job performing a few throughout the film.
This film is superbly acted by all involved. It has a brilliant ending: it makes so much more sense than the way these types of movies usually end. See it. If you can handle the black-and-white, you will probably enjoy the film.
It is a chance to see two of the best "tough guys" of the silver screen together. This is without a doubt one of the best gangster films I have seen.
