I feel like I'm going against the masses here but I did not care for this film. Was it educational and patriotic? Yes. Did I enjoy the subject material? Of course. The problem lies with the multiple directions the film takes us.

The film only focused on a few men that were part of a group of astronauts. Was Chuck Yeager's storyline really necessary? Couldn't it be mentioned or glossed over instead of examining his life and accomplishments? This could take out an hour of the over 3 hour long film.

The acting was good and there were some neat scenes but a lot of the times the film doesn't take time to examine what is truly inspiring and beautiful - "space". The point of the film was to give audiences an idea of what the space race was like and the challenges and people involved.

Never too serious and never too funny....the film was too simple and laid all its cards on the table without any tricks up its sleeve. I've seen much better. (see: "Apollo 13", "2001: A Space Odyssey").
