One who has come from the dead.

The Revenant is an absolutely gorgeous film. It is an example of extreme devotion to one's craft, not only for the director but the whole cast and crew of the film. It is a remarkable and praiseworthy achievement to film in all natural light and to go extreme distances to make a film this raw, realistic and gritty, immersing the audience fully into Innaritu's vision.

First of all this is a film experience unlike any other and is as much as a technical achievement as Innaritu's last film, Birdman, if not more. lubezki's cinematogrphy is astonishing and beautiful and the director's long and visionary takes showcase that. The film is raw and gritty with a great cast who go through so much to make this movie right. Dicaprio has already won the Oscar for his turn as Hugh Glass. The film makes it feel like he actually went through all the challenges he did. Tom Hardy was also great with Gleeson and Pouter doing great work as well.

The film's second half does get repetitive with many silent scenes where Dicaprio tries to survive the in the cold. This may have dragged on more than it should have.

Overall The Revenant is a work of art, though it has a repetitive and dragging second act it manages to be a thrilling feat for the director and its whole cast.

Rating: 8.3 (A-).
