Review of The Revenant (2015) by Luke A — 04 Jun 2016
The film that finally got Leo the Oscar he deserved, The Revenant is inspired by the true story of Frontiersman Hugh Glass. This was not an easy watch, mostly because I didn't want DiCaprio to be bad, and thankfully he wasn't.
I was completely transported into the beautifully shot wilderness, I felt every second of it. At 156 minutes long, this is an exhausting film but it is completely worth the watch. Beautiful one take shots, majestic landscapes (supposedly using the natural light as well) and powerful acting from DiCaprio, Hardy and Gleeson.
The sheer commitment from DiCaprio (eating raw bison liver, the bear attack scene and sleeping inside the corpse of a horse) makes this his best work to date.
