Review of The Revenant (2015) by Brad S — 04 Jul 2016
The absolutely outstanding cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki is the real reason to watch this. The direction is strong, but I felt the story wasn't strong enough to put it in the realm of classic, or Best Picture, and it certainly didn't justify the long running time.
DiCaprio was really solid, which he has been over his least several performances, but not sure I would've given him the Oscar, Eddie Redmayne's performance in "The Danish Girl" was completely trans-formative and if he hadn't won an Oscar the previous year, or his film was better, I think he would have taken it.
In any case, I still recommend watching this film for the stunning cinematography, if nothing else.
