Review of The Revenant (2015) by Tony D — 05 Aug 2016
Throughout the grueling survival struggles of The Revenant, I couldn't help thinking that this is what a more honest Dances with Wolves might have looked like: a white settler assimilates to Pawnee culture, loses his wife to a white military raid & then finds himself & his half-Pawnee son caught between the encroaching racist culture & the shrinking native ones.
I would rather have seen a version of the story in which the son lives to avenge his father & find his own place in the changing lands of the upper Missouri.
