An okay movie... but certainly don't agree with the critics that it was a master piece. Many are unaware it is unoriginal... the fist was called Man in the Wilderness (1971) staring Richard Harris and yes he was left for dead after being attacked by, you guessed it, a bear.
Hollywood really needs to get some imagination -- nothing but remakes are reboots, if they do have an original idea it is not entertaining just a veiled political "statement movie".
