Review of The Revenant (2015) by Thatgooner — 27 Mar 2016
I've checked this for spoilers but it's predominantly a vague - non-spoiler - review, so if you haven't seen this and you only care to watch it with a certain half-heartedness, then this is the one for you. I digress...
Oh, if only you could give more specific ratings because this would certainly be heading for an 8.5 from me if this was the case.
After a start that left me somewhat confused as to how the rest of the film may continue and maintain a certain quality, then came the bear. The big killer who rather ironically struck life into what would've been a long two and a half hours. Having witnessed, and continued to witness, the stunning cinematography pulled off throughout in order to add a real open effect to the film, there began a revenge story between the two on-form actors; Hardy and DiCaprio. Everything about this revenge plot had me gripped. The way you knew there was an air of tension between the two main characters, and the fact that you knew Fitzgerald had it in for Glass foreshadowed the state he ended up leaving him in, and it really did help this story flow and with some luck along the way, the inevitable ending seemed oh so dramatic. From the dummy dead body to knife fight on the icy floors besides the forest, it had me tense all the way through. DiCaprio's star-studded performance now seems to be well-worthy of the Oscar for Best Actor as the grit and determination of the character just kept on going and going, and I'm glad he did. I'm new to doing these reviews so I'm unsure of whether this was written 'acceptably' but nevertheless hope you enjoyed this and I *thoroughly* recommend you watch this film.
