Review of The Revenant (2015) by Cal F — 22 Jun 2016
Beautiful film. Brutal, realistic, nothing held back.
Innaritu does a fantastic job telling the story of Hugh Glass, a fur-trapper mauled by a bear and left for dead, setting across on a long, raw, cold trek for revenge on those who wronged him. Leonardo DiCaprio also goes all out in this one--having actually eaten a raw fish and raw bison meat to become the character of Hugh Glass and to experience what Glass had to do to survive in the early 1800's.
Man's struggle to survive and to take revenge is well-crafted by Innaritu and DiCaprio, all the while being surrounded by some outstanding scenery in the woods and mountains of the northwest.
Just as Leo did whatever it took to get his long-deserved Oscar, The Revenant tells a story of perseverance, survival, and like Leo, doing whatever it takes to attain your goal.
