Review of The Revenant (2015) by Hungry T — 22 Jul 2016
Plagued by the curse of Terrence Mallick. Apparently today you can't just get on with the story. You need magnificent shots of nature, wide, long and brooding. You need grim, artsy music to take you even more out of the story (that never seems to materialize itself anyway).
You need to strip actors of almost all their craft but the facial expressions (most of them prolonged, gimlet-eyed looks). Then you're done with your work of art. Fine, but you haven't fooled me.
Where's the fucking story?
