When I first watched Return of the Living Dead, I did not like it at all but after I found out the DVD was out of print, I decided to buy it. Rewatching it the other day, I came to realize that it`s an amazing film. I remembered a movie that was too cheesy and tried to be too funny.

While it is a horror movie, it combines black humour into it very well. The comedy is not overused and fits in the places where it is used. The plot isn`t the usual zombie apocalypse for once. The movie states that the events in it are true and actually occurred. As well they say that George Romero`s Night of the Living Dead was all real. I found that aspect of the movie really interesting.

The zombies are designed extremely well for a low budget film. There are some memorable ghouls as well like the slime zombie in the warehouse basement and the midget zombie feasting on the brains of the paramedics. The gore in the movie is very well done and is almost as good as the effects in Day of the Dead which was released the same year. Dan O`Bannon had some great zombies and gore created in this movie.

The acting isn`t the best in horror movie history but it`s tolerable. Linnea Quigley does a good job in her role as Trash, the punker who does a naked dance in the graveyard in one of the movies most memorable scenes. Clu Galager and Don Calfa both do amazing jobs as the films main characters and protagonists. James Karen, the one who unleashes the zombie apocalypse is great. Overall the acting is quite decent except for a few of the punkers.
