Review of The Return of the Living Dead (1985) by Guemana B — 09 Nov 2010
This is a cult classic offshoot from Night of the living dead (Romero 1968). I now know where that "braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaains... !" cultural reference comes from. I was heavily surprised to find out that this movie spawned a whole series on it's own.
I don't know for the other movies, but Return of the living dead (O'Bannon 1985) is not particularly good -- that's usually bad news for the other movies in the sequel. It is important to undertsand that it was designed to be an horror comedy -- some kind of zombie movie spoof if you'd like.
This is why it has a simple storyline with stock characters, loose parts (some actually feel adlibbed and confused), a low-to-fair sound quality and incredibly cheap special effects. However, it is rather amusing, and ends up being much more entertaining to watch than most of the recent zombie movies.
