Review of The Return (2006) by Robert F — 26 Mar 2009

Don't expect big things to happen in this movie. It is a quiet, thoughtful little movie that is actually quite good given its objectives, not all out horror, mind you. The acting of the leads, Sarah Michelle Gellar and the unknown guy who played Terry, are searing and thought-provoking.

The cinematography was amazing, especially in that scary scene, when SMG was looking at her reflection in the mirror and looked down for a while, then another woman's face was left where SMG's face used to be.

must admit that there is one key factor that was a little too conveniently introduced from out of nowhere. This was the only drawback in my opinion. Along with the useless (and illogical) presence of the Adam Scott character.

But overall, all the loose ends seemed well tied up. The seahorses, the cars involved in the accident, the haunting song that keeps playing, the earring around Terry's neck...the resolution on how these small details contributed to the story gave me a very satisfied feeling at the end of the movie.
