Review of The Rescuers Down Under (1990) by Sebastian C — 09 Mar 2011
The superior sequel (A rare thing, indeed!) to "The Rescuers", with Eva Gabor & Bob Newhart reprising their roles as our titular sleuths. This time the action takes place "Down Under", where Bernard and Miss Bianca must contend with vicious poacher MacLeish, who is hot on the trail of a rare and enormous Golden Eagle.
Of course the Disney animators take advantage of the endless oppurtunity to plumb the visual wealth of the Australian outback, & as usual, the film is vivid and brightly colorful. George C. Scott is faboo as the blustery scoundrel MacLeish, & the character's scenes with his egg-eating lizard-lackey, Joanna the Goanna are priceless! John Candy also scores as a plump Albatross who aids our heroes.
A marvelous Disney effort!
