Review of The Rescuers (1977) by Jonlloyd A — 25 Feb 2018
I regret giving this film 3 stars. Because after re-watching it. I have found a new place in my heart for it. In my previous review for The Rescuers, I criticized it's songs and score for not living up to the traditional Disney standards.
Now I can't stop listening to them. I guess I didn't realize it before, but they are now my favorite part of the film. Artie Butler did an amazing job composing the score. The tone of it is just perfect with a nice balance of adventure, sadness, and happiness.
The songs I feel are also very good (My favorite being The Journey). I forgot who sings them. But her voice is just so calm and relaxing to listen to that I could listen to her all day. As for the rest of the elements in the film, those have relatively stayed the same.
I still think that the Animation is done very well (If a bit sketchy at times), and the voice acting is still superb. However, the characters are all unmemorable and bland. There are a few exceptions however.
I still think that Luke and Orville are pretty good (Then again they are supposed to be the comic reliefs of the film), and I have actually started to respect the character of Bernard more. Now don't get it wrong, I still think that he is pretty dull.
However something about his voice and personality makes me smile. I guess that's because I can relate to him the most out of all of the characters. He's shy, easily frighted, and paranoid about the number 13, but brave, witty, and intelligent.
Now again, that's not really anything special. But maybe having a realistic character like him is a good thing. Since it gives others to relate to him and even have a connection. And I still can't stand Madame Medusa.
She's basically just a Cruella de Vil clone with a different purpose and slightly less psychotic. And Snoops isn't all that great either.
