Review of The Replacement Killers (1998) by Christopher S — 30 Dec 2011
One of the better action films of the 1990s but I thought it could have been much better. While Antoine Fuqua's directing was solid, I think this film would have been better had someone like John Woo directed it.
The action sequences were excellent as was Chow Yun Fat. This was his American debut and he did not disappoint given most Americans' love for shallow stories and violent actions. However, I did not like the dynamics of the relationship between Chow Yun Fat's character and Mira Sorvino's character.
There was definitely romantic chemistry. Why would Fuqua not go with it? I guess Hollywood hates Asian men with non-Asian women. Still a solid action film but it could have been better.
