Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Charles D — 21 Jul 2008
A very good cinematic adaptation, though it fails to do justice to the book and the complexity of its protagonist. Stevens and Miss Kenton's encounter at the end was especially disappointing. Harold Pinter (!) had written a screenplay; one wonders how this film would have turned out had his script been used rather than Jhabvala's.
