Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Laura E — 14 Apr 2008
***SPOILERS AHEAD*** For all the hype, this movie TOTALLY disappointed me. The only reason I can give it two stars, is because I saw it when it came out in 1993 and it has stayed with me all of these years.
Partially, because I was so scarred that I endured this slow tale, that in the end didn't even deliver a happy ending for surviving the boring hours it took to get there. What stayed with me though, is - the truth of the fact that for some people, love can knock on their doorstep all their lives, and they can just never get over themselves enough to accept it! What the movie doesn't deliver, and I believe would've been a better ending, is the other truth, that life never stops presenting us with chances.
Love continues to stand on the stoop and wait for us, long after we thought we'd permanently sealed the door.
