Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Ben P — 11 Feb 2009
Underacting is sometimes the best acting. Hopkins and Thompson are perfect in their restrained roles in this insightful period piece about class and duty...at the expense of love. All of this leading up to and after WWII .
.with the secondary premise of catering to the Nazi's. You truly feel these people wanting to convey their feelings of love...and yet feeling restrained and paralyzed..due to their rank. She eventually gives the best shot.
..but, poor Hopkins just can't break his mold. Interesting, slow moving, yet captivating. One to see more than once.
