Just when I was losing my faith in movies along comes "The Remains of the Day".
One of a handful of movies where it's subtly is its biggest strength. The eyes of the characters give the most emotion. There were no outlandish attempts to show contempt, romance, anger, etc. It was all done in a private and dignified manner, much like the subject of the movie.
Outstanding performances by the leads Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson as well as a strong supporting cast in James Fox, Christopher Reeve and Hugh Grant.
