Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Ruby J — 06 Jun 2010
Any time this movie is on, I stop whatever I'm doing and become completely enthralled with the stunning understated performances and brutal emotional coldness that fills this story.
The tension in this movie is almost unbearable as Anthony Hopkins' character denies himself fulfillment with Emma Thompson's character and peace with his father, played by Peter Vaughan, all because of pride and self-loathing.
The background is also delicious, since we get to see the inside of a British manor...so gorgeous!
Huge Grant isn't too annoying and it's nice to see Christopher Reeve in something other than tights.
