Review of The Remains of the Day (1993) by Michael L — 03 Apr 2010
A beautiful and spellbinding movie. Central character masterfully played by Hopkins is so tortured yet sympathetic right through. The film location and nuances of British aristocracy is delicious here.
It's sombre and almost "haunting" music really adds to the mood of something not quite right beneath it's smooth, impeccably ironed surface. A bit like Cape Fear meets Mrs Maple but the only crime committed here is one of repressed love and blind duty.
