Review of The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2013) by Ross M — 24 May 2013
Boy, is this a very timely film indeed ! This is the 1st film I have ever seen directed by Mira Nair. It's very impressive with a few minor things wrong with it. The best performance is from Riz Ahmed in the lead role of Changez.
Over the course of the film he goes from a wall street financial analyst to a real fundamentalist. So he has a real story arc here. This storyline maybe a little bit forced but I can see how this has happened to all different people since 9/11.
The way that changez is treated after september 11 is quite disgusting and really degrading. It reminds me alot of the way that japanese-americans were treated right after the attack on pearl harbour.
Just a matter of 60 years. The reactive american government lead by the most incompentent president in US history thought to themselves that it was a excuse to start invading innocent countries. They just stupidly tared the american muslim's exactly the same way as before.
The casting of Kate Hudson is not right with the middle of the film sagging. Her character says some really dumb things to her boyfriend, changez. Expecting a answer from him because he's a muslim from pakistan.
What I take out of a film like this is the western powers still won't give up there colonial past. That is what started all this in the first place.
