Review of The Red Violin (1998) by Hala Z — 20 Aug 2009
I have always heard of this movie since I was 17 but I only got the chance to see it 10 years later. I figured any movie that hires Joshua Bell for their movie score is worth to watch. As it turns out, it was worth to watch not only for the music, but the story itself.
It was an intriguing journey of a violin haunted by the one it was made for, and it affects its inheritors in many different but sad ways through out 3 entire centuries. The story may not be original, but the manner it was unfolded was what made the movie so interesting.
Of course we'll leave that mainly to the mystery behind the instrument, it made the movie quite eerie and enigmatic. I say it is worth watching, at least once.
