Review of The Raven (2012) by Alvin Y — 06 Nov 2012
"Quoth the Raven "Nevermore.".
..or, should I say, watch the movie, one time evermore! I thought the movie was good but kinda messed up sometimes with some plot holes and under developments of storylines. Cusack was OK as Poe, I imagine Nicolas Cage or Robert Downey Jr that could play Poe here, but that's fine. Other than that, I felt it's sort of a Sherlock Holmes movie, with the style of films like Seven and even, yes, the Saw movies! Well then, KIDS BE WARNED NOT TO SEE THIS! The ending has a nice payoff but did it really care whether it's a true story or not? I still say Edgar Allan Poe is one of the greatest writers of all time behind William Shakespeare, but the movie just focuses on Poe as Sherlock Holmes? And if you hated Sherlock Holmes 2, then this one is for you, straight forward storyline but BUT more gruesome violence. Still a fun movie!
