Review of The Rainmaker (1997) by Ed M — 10 Jun 2007
In typical lawyer fashion this movie will hold your attention. It is just a profession that makes for good stories. I guess you can say I am a little disappointed because John Grisham seems to have great success in writing novels (even though I have not read one). This movie is just average movie at best, which pains me to say because I am a fan of Matt Damon.
There is one major loose end dealing with the cops and Ray (Matt Damon) that was completely unresolved. Quite astonishing considering he knew he left clues and what cop in their right mind would think a tiny girl could do that with a baseball bat to a full grown man who beat her senseless in the past. This was an absolutely idiotic part of the movie that really makes no sense and to me wrecked the integrity of the movie which is huge in lawyer profession. I really hope the book did a tad better job at explaining how the cops never finger pointed at him.
In the end this is a lawyer movie. This is not a masterpiece at all and is significantly over hyped. If you like law, it is probably watchable. If you don?t like law, you are probably better off watching something else.
