Review of The Rainmaker (1997) by Luke M — 18 Jul 2014
Francis Ford Coppola's directing is great, as to be expected, and Matt Damon is a strong lead in this movie. However, that doesn't help you get over the fact that it doesn't generate it's own style or charm, rather taking it's style from movies like Forrest Gump, Goodfellas, And Justice for All and other classic and similar movies.
It's impressive that it features so many memorable characters, but the amount of time we spend with each character is somewhat disproportionate. The movie is super slow, but it uses those slugging minutes with great efficiency.
And if nothing else, it has the strength to make a stance, just like our main character. Worth a watch.
