Book mediocre, movie terrible. The movie may have been better was I not tainted by the book, but probably not. It's probably just a stinky movie.
Why? Its been while, but I think the movie's core problem was type casting that made for lazy plot development. Cast DeVito as the smarmy guy and Matt Damon has the underdog and you have your movie. Who needs things like character development and motivation, right?
