Review of The Rainmaker (1997) by Jenn M — 03 Jun 2012
I was expecting waaaaay better than what this was. I was expecting an intense, thrilling legal drama but it was a mess! Starts off normal enough, Damon is a young attorney who ends up working for a seedy law firm.
A case gets thrown at him that consists of a case against an HMO for not covering leukemia treatment. Seems interesting but suddenly that whole plot line kinda just disappears and makes way for a ridiculous story where Damon encounters a horribly beaten wife of a deadbeat (Danes) and sparks up some kind of a romance which doesn't contribute to the whole theme of the movie at all.
It was stale, stupid and boring and I'm not just saying that because I find Danes to be a horrible actress all around either. Anyways, half way into it I lost interest as the story had too many weird turns that made no sense to me and therefore I didn't waste my time watching the rest.
By the half way point, the basic premise of the film was totally lost, it was disappointing.
