Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by Hammad K — 21 Jun 2014
Would you believe me if I told you that the bar for action movies has forever been raised? Don't, because The Raid 2 does not simply raise the bar, it IS the new bar for what is possible in action movies.
Gareth Evans, in his sequel to the 2011 brutal corridor actioner, The Raid: Redemption, has delivered an all-out blood-drenched assault on the senses with The Raid 2 that will not be forgotten anytime soon.
Moving away from the tight corridor focus of its predecessor, The Raid 2 is a full-blown crime epic, spanning years, and in the process, churns out some of the most blistering, unbelievable fight and action sequences I have ever seen, and that too on a $5 Million budget.
If your heart is not racing continuously during the final 30-45 minutes, then you are already dead. In short, Gareth Evans has schooled Hollywood with this sequel, and I will be lucky if I ever enjoy any of the CGI-laden Disney superhero films again.
The Raid 2 is a blood-soaked masterpiece, and Hollywood would either have to conform to the spectacle on display here, or risk turning redundant if it fails to.
