Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by David C — 25 Jun 2014
What I loved about the first "Raid" film, was the contained reality portrayed by the filmmakers. A well-armed swat team gets in over their heads and becomes disarmed and out of ammo to the point where their only hope of survival is hand-to-hand combat and/or weapons they can find.
In the Raid 2, they throw this contained action out the window in favour of telling a large city crime sage, and in doing so, loose the realism I really loved about the first movie. If you can get over the idea that a modern-day crime syndicate doesn't protect itself with any firearms, and sends dozens of henchmen to defend their turf with bats and knifes, then you may appreciate this film far more than I did.
Well-directed, well-shot, well-edited, choreographed, and sound designed, just not, well, in the same realistic world as the first film.
