Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by Tanvir M — 27 Sep 2014
A throwback to the martial art films of the 80s and 90s, when actual martial artists starred in films without rapid cuts, and action was vicious and brutal without too much CGI. Add to it the balletic but brutal fight choreography that doesn't hesitate to dip into some blood and gore, and you have one of the best action films of this decade (which stays true to the genre trope- even the biggest gangsters don't use guns and prefer to settle their scores through their fists, and at times baseball bats and hammers!).
Long at 2 hours and 30 minutes, but more than enough adrenaline to push through. Did I mention it cranked up the intensity and brutality of the first film by several notches (which I didn't believe would be possible).
Essential viewing for action film fans.
