Review of The Raid 2 (2014) by Kevin R — 04 Aug 2014
Just fuck that guy's asshole you stupid bitch.
Jakarta is a police officer that has been assigned to bring down a corrupt drug lord that has extended his reach into the police force. He infiltrates the crime family by befriending the boss's son in prison and then working his way up the crime family once they are both out of jail. Can Jakarta bring down the family or will his cover be blown and he'll have to fight his way to freedom?
"Who is that?".
"The asshole son of an asshole politician.".
Gareth Evans, director of The Raid: Redemption, Merantau, a segment of V/H/S 2, and the upcoming Raid 3, delivers The Raid 2. The Raid 2's acting, dialogue, and story were all mediocre to below par but the action scenes on a scale of 1 to 10 are a 25. The action scenes are fresh, unique, and well paced. The dialogue and acting are both pretty dreadful and the cast includes Iko Uwais, Julie Estelle, Arifin Putra, Alex Abbad, Oka Antara, and Tio Pakusodewo.
"Loners don't tend to last too long in here.".
I absolutely loved the first movie so I had to purchase this upon hearing it was released. The film is a bit slow and the 2.5 hour run time is definitely long for this genre; however, the action scenes are awesome and very cutting edge and the end is perfect for this movie. Overall, this is a wonderful addition to the genre for fans of martial arts pictures but this couldn't stand on its own as a great movie without those elements.
"Take your clothes off.".
Grade: B+/A- (8.25).
