Review of The Quiet Man (1952) by Larry R — 02 Jan 2010
Very hard to agree with the bulk of the critics in their praise - all this film really succeeds in is showing that an American is better at being Irish than people who live in Ireland. It's as if they've ALMOST evolved into the Omega Wayne.
Apart from the stereotypes and pretty useless message, it is cinematographically excellent, and Ford retains his good sense of humour. Not one of his best, by any means - but drunk and silly.
