Review of The Quiet American (2002) by Cam B — 12 Mar 2006
Described by Amazon as an 'elegant' film from Noyce, and I'll give it that. Frustrated me for the most part with its major focus on the love triangle from Greene's novel rather than the anti-war sentiment that I found dramatically more powerful and valuable.
Similarly, hated the changes to Pyle's character in the climactic scene in the Place Garnier - he, and in turn America - comes out of the film worse than he does from the novel. Intrigue in parts, but really the book should be read, the film avoided.
