Review of The Quiet American (2002) by Denise H — 05 Mar 2010
I couldn't quite follow the plot in this movie but I appreciated the political "wheeling/dealing" going on during this time in history. Very telling how the mechanics of the forces in play pushed the U.
S. into war (Viet Nam). Michael Caine was earnest as a British correspondent who's fallen in love with a Vietnamese woman that he doesn't want to be involved with (but is...deeply). Brendan Fraser is the hopeless idealist that tries to avoid commitment as well but allows the politics (and the money ) to overwhelm him.
The question becomes "where do you make a stand" and both men reach different conclusions. 3 stars for the acting but the plot needed more explanation.
