Review of The Quiet American (2002) by Sid C — 18 Aug 2010
The chief difference between this and the earlier version is seen in its criticism of American policy in Vietnam.
Otherwise the scenes are much the same, though the modern effects make some of the violence more emotional impacting.
Performances are stronger with deeper emotion. The tone of sadness is more palpable here.
In the end the story perhaps would be of better value had it concentrated more on the issues of war than the love triangle that is the feature, but of course this is a personal preference.
So, I would say I "liked this one better", but the distinction was not enough to change the score.
